There are over 104 million tribal people in the country belonging to 705 different tribes and evidence suggests that tribal peoples have a much higher prevalence of TB (703 per 100,000) as compared to the national average of 256 per 100,000. Out of all TB notified patients, 10.4% belong to tribal communities. It is needless to say that achieving the ambitious goal of TB Mukt Bharat is not possible unless tribal peoples combat the infection.
Considering this, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare signed a Joint Action Plan for Elimination of TB in October, 2020. Following this agreement, various development partners were mobilized to outline the strategic roadmap.
